The Olly Murs after pic is closer to "athletic" rather than "bodybuilder", though, which seems to slightly contradict the data earlier in the piece.
My hot take is that he just looks slightly nicer in the "before" pic, mainly because of warmer lighting (maybe also nicer hair, beard and shorts), which explains all the difference. I think if these were held constant, women would slightly prefer the leaner physique.
I agree. My nuanced take is that the guy’s head and hair look more natural and, ummm, human in the first photo, while his torso obviously looks better in the second one.
heterosexual woman (did I get it right?) I am on this!
Gays have it. An
attractive man has a perfect opening for a woman's head to rest on his chest and still be able to kiss his neck. The perfect male body has hair on it to play with. A bald head is nice to rub
and kiss, tho. It is perfect with and without tattoos.
The arms are perfect if they wrap around me.
Being strong is nice; being gentle is nicer. The eyes have it, tho. The most attractive men look at you
as though you're the only person in the room and you see into their souls.
Agreed about the twunk physique just looking better. An even worse name for it: Ottermode.
My 2c : women might be sensing the obsessive vanity and undersocialization that comes with bodybuilding. A lot of dudes who are into the 'sport' are frankly a bit weird and get into it for reasons that are only partly solved by lifting weights and overeating. I say this as someone who watches enough hypertrophy content to see how common this is. The clearest indicator of these attitudes is that all bodybuilding forums refer to that exact shot of Fight Club Brad Pitt as being 'skinny,' whereas us civillians would just say he looks hot.
Also, I think there's something oddly feminine to bodybuilding as it fundamentally comes down to looking good in pictures/on stage. The ladies still froth over regular-sports atheletes with similar physiques (rugby, beefier Australian football players) because those dudes are typically much better adjusted and their achievements are tied to what they do, not what they look like.
Yeah, but the Olly Murs guy's after picture is not 'bodybuilder.' It's simply 'really fucking fit.'
I'm not actually doubting you or woman on what they find more attractive, but two thoughts:
1. There are also a shit ton more bodies like the first one (or even the more twink-ish pics) because a lot more guys look like than than they look shredded.
2. For woman, I genuinely do believe they'd rather date the doughier body because they would feel both upstaged by the super fit guy, and also more worried that he will cheat. So, not doubting they feel the way they do, but think there is probably more to it than 'Olly Murs looks better when he's in worse shape.'
Your 2 is real. Women don’t want to have to compete in the looks category with their guy. They might like to look at or have sex with super fit, but they want to marry kind of fit.
However, 9 in looks and 5 in finances? Versus 6 in looks, 9 in finances? Who wins? (And then gets cheated on.)

He has fat pads on his face in the before and they are all drained out in the after! It runs the golden ratio!!

Gay men are not a good guide as to what women find attractive.
I find “Yes, I’m still better at culture than you” to be compelling.
‘Preference’ for what? This seems to blur marriage / relationship preference with hook-up / affair preference.
