I'm not finding this funny. I think it's clear that Trump is an enemy of the liberal order. He probably won't be able to bring it down, but this is a dangerous situation. Also do you really think that his foreign policy will be more humane than Biden's? Democrats listen to critics like you, but Trump does not.
This post is about liberal internationalists, not Trump (who has an even worse foreign policy and is about as bad as you’re going to get). I think these people are fair targets for mockery since their style of criticism basically defined the Biden campaign/administration and contributed in large part to Harris’s loss. I’m particularly irked that:
1. Their history of the “liberal international order” is highly sanitized and hypocritical (see, eg, Pat Porter on this: https://www.cato.org/policy-analysis/world-imagined-nostalgia-liberal-order). To be frank, I don’t know if it’s accurate to say LIO is even a thing, and if it is then Trump is hardly a unique threat -- he’s bad but this isn’t why.
2. Their primary criticism of Trump seems to be that he’s not hawkish enough on foreign policy, when he’s far more hawkish than Democrats, even on, eg, Russia where he armed Ukraine and expanded NATO multiple times. (Again, I think Trump’s policy is terrible, but the criticism is totally wrong and actually lets him get away with awful things, like starving people en masse with sanctions.)
3. There is absolutely no comprehension in some corners that constantly talking about an imagined global battle of democracy vs. autocracy is a big reason why Biden’s approvals have consistently been so low and Harris lost. Voters just don’t care!
This is funny because it points out the gap between liberal hysteria and logical geopolitics. But abandoning Ukraine is not logical geopolitics. The other side doesn't have to be "literally Hitler" in order for a war to be justified.
I don’t think Substack comments are a good medium for exchanging ideas on this, but if you’d like to write a set of dueling articles on Ukraine I think that would be fun and worthwhile.
I will! I can't guarantee my article will be as funny or coherent, but I will write some stuff on why I see Ukraine as a proxy war with China rather than Russia.
Clearly the primary goal of D.J.T. is to own the libs, at any cost. So long as the liberal establishment is mostly reasonable and pushing actually useful policies, this is extremely dangerous for the country, as D.J.T. will destroy democracy to own them.
Fortunately, as they have become more deranged day by day, owning the libs now likely means upholding democratic norms and unifying the nation. The future is looking bright.
This is beautiful satire.

Perfection. Peerless analysis. This guy gets it. If we can triple faculty salary, I'm sure the Dems have got it in 28.
