I write about U.S. politics and foreign policy, practical ethics, effective altruism, vegan and animal advocacy, and American intellectual and political history after World War II. What do I get for subscribing?
Most of my articles are un-paywalled, so even free subscribers will get somewhere around two posts per week.
If you select a paid subscription, you’ll also get the following:
Paywalled articles: Access to everything, including the entire blog archive.
Chat: Access to the official United States of Exception subscriber chat.
Monthly video calls: An invitation to join me on a monthly paid-subscriber-only video call, with the link posted in the chat each month.
Request articles: You can suggest any piece of literature or media you’d like me to review, up to two per subscriber per year — including your own blog or articles — and if it’s a reasonable length and I don’t think it would alienate too much of the audience, I’ll write a post about it.
Advanced access: Occasionally, I’ll share links to article drafts in the paid subscriber chat for you to offer input. I will acknowledge any substantive contributions in the footnotes when the article is published.
Podcast interviews: If you can prove to me that you have something interesting to say — at least interesting enough to justify an hour-plus conversation — I’ll record an audio or video podcast with you and post it on the blog. No limit on the frequency, as long as you’re sufficiently interesting.
Life advice: If you want it, I guess you can ask the chat or something.
Naming rights: For various amounts of money, I’ll name or rename my online alias ($10,000), newsletter ($50,000), or first-born child ($2,000,000) after anything you want. At least half the proceeds will go to the EA Animal Welfare Fund.
Paid subscriptions are just $5 per month or $50 per year. I’ll also give you a free year-long paid subscription if you start a new recurring donation of at least $25 per month to the EA Animal Welfare Fund or any FarmKind or Animal Charity Evaluators recommended charity and send me a receipt.
